A dangerous trip for a manatee

"Released manatee traveling north out to sea" - several marine mammal experts tried to rescue a female manatee, nicknamed Glades, that swam more than 130 km miles off the Florida coast. The marine mammal, which was being monitored with tracking equipment since her release from rehabilitation, seem to have failed to migrate for inshore waters. Previously, she spent 15 months at Miami Seaquarium, after being rescued, as an orphaned calf, due to entrapment. For two days, experts associated with the Sea to Shore Alliance and SeaWorld Orlando were not able to locate and recover the manatee. "Anti-whaling protest ship in Southern Ocean distress"

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society announced that "one of its boats [the Brigitte Bardot] chasing the Japanese whaling fleet in the Southern Ocean" issued a distress call after its hull was "cracked by a rogue wave". Mr. Paul Watson was quoted saying "This is disappointing, but these are hostile seas and we have always been prepared for situations like this. Right now the safety of my crew on the Brigitte Bardot is our priority and we intend to reach the crew and then do what we can to save our ship". Reportedly, the wave slammed into the ship's port side "cracking the hull and severely damaging one of its pontoons".
