The following vacant position is available in the Institute for Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Health and Biology at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover

Professorship for “Terrestrial and Aquatic Wildlife Health and Biology”

with locations in Hannover and Büsum. Depending on the personal circumstances, the permanent appointment will be based on either a civil service or an employee contract on the basis of a W2 pay grade.
Depending on the individual suitability and circumstances, an initial temporary appointment may be considered.

Responsibilities:
A verified research profile in the field of wildlife health is expected from the applicant. The focus of the research should particularly concentrate on the effects of anthropogenic activities on animals, habitat utilisation, reproduction and the nutritional ecology of wildlife. With respect to research on the anthropogenic effects on wildlife, there is particular interest in the influence of e.g. offshore structures, agriculture, fishing and road building, as well as the general impact of stress, noise and waste, as well as antibiotic resistance. Another research focus should be on infectious diseases and zoonoses, examples being the spread of infectious diseases, and their importance as indicators for healthy wildlife populations, as well as the development of hygiene measures when handling wildlife. The professorship also involves teaching veterinary surgeons and biologists at the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover in the field of wildlife medicine and biology.

Qualifications:
Many years of experience and scientific activity in the field of wildlife medicine and biology is expected. The necessary qualifications are a licence to practise veterinary medicine, a doctorate, postdoctoral lecture qualification or comparable scientific qualifications, as well as a specialised veterinary medicine qualification in a relevant discipline and/or the status of a Diplomate of a European College in the field of Zoological Medicine-Wildlife Populations Health (ECZM-WPH) or Aquatic Animal Health (ECAAH). In addition, experience is expected in teaching, the successful acquisition of third party funding, experience in public relations work, and management experience.

The other appointment qualifications required are stipulated in Section 25 of the NHG (Niedersachsen University Act).
